History

Founded in 1972, DG5 was designed to by its founders to be an Architectural practice that looks to the future and for longevity.

In a world where achievements of the individual take pre-eminence; where names are made and revered, we set out to create a difference. From the outset we were a group focusing on growing as a corporate and building our image as one.

From our first project designing a residence in Colombo 7 to broadening our scope to the corporate arena, we created landmarks that set a precedent and have stood the test of time.

The Mattegoda Housing Scheme, commercial developments at Navam Mawatha, Aitken Spence and Hayleys head offices, the Majestic City Complex, Empire and Iceland residencies and many others – all, trailblazing projects that changed the face of Sri Lanka. They continue to hold their own as outstanding designs of significance and functionality.

Our founders always drew strength as being innovators of their time, introducing a number of firsts to the local Architectural landscape. These included being the first to use Information Technology for design and quantity surveying calculations in the late 1970s, the first to utilize Computer Aided Design in the early 1980s, the introduction of new materials such as fair faced concrete and cladding in buildings to more recently to be the first Sri Lankan practice of its scale to embrace Building Information Modeling and 3-dimensional design and Quantity Surveying.
